Dreaming of a brighter future
Dreaming of a brighter future
Story
Hello everyone
Well, we made it there and back! It was an incredible experience, with the landscape proving to be more beautiful around every corner and beyond every ridge. By day two I had run out of superlatives; it was truly spectacular and I am very grateful to the traditional owners for allowing us to experience, for a brief moment, their country and their Dreaming.
Rather than break it down for you day by day, if you would like more information please check out the blog posted by inspired adventures. It has some great yarns and stunning photos. http://blog.inspiredadventures.com.au/2012/07/19/walkabout-for-change-2012-full-blog/
ICV also took the trekkers out to a community, Titjikala, with whom we have a relationship spanning many years. It was rewarding sharing the achievements of that mob with the other trekkers and supporters and to show what is possible when we all work together on community initiated and owned development.
So thanks again for your support. We raised over $60k and perhaps more importantly, we created a unique opportunity to share stories and educate the wider community on who we are as an organisation, issues being experienced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, and to showcase the valuable work being undertaken out in community where it really counts.
I’m very grateful to you all.
Kind regards
Steph

COMMUNITY FIRST DEVELOPMENT LIMITED
Community First Development is a registered charity and non-profit organisation working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve quality of life, wellbeing and social inclusion. Our vision is for an Australia where all Australians live in harmony and where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people share the same rights, respect and access to opportunities and rewards, and where their culture is valued and recognised as an asset to Australian society. Community First Development is invited by communities to help them overcome disadvantage. Our role is to support communities with skills and resources not normally available to them. We do this with the enthusiasm and dedication of volunteers from all walks of life, from child care to construction, medicine to manufacturing, and gardening to grant-writing.
